If your fitness routine isn’t appropriate for you, it won’t provide the results you want. Regardless of what fitness experts say, you are the expert on your own body and your own life. See this week’s trainer’s tips for taking ownership over your workout.
Make it Work for You!
We talk about mindfulness a lot in our newsletter. Vinnie and I are huge advocates of listening to your body and making your fitness choices accordingly. We invite you to apply that to every facet of your life, even the workouts we design for you!
Fitness isn’t sustainable if you hate engaging in it. Remember, humans really don’t like to force themselves to do things they don’t want to do. If the way you workout isn’t working for you, then your fitness routine isn’t going to last. Listening to your body allows you to identify when your workout isn’t right for you. Take ownership over your workout by trying the following:
- Modify. Are you struggling to do a full burpee? How do your push ups feel? Regardless of the movement, if you can’t do it feel free to modify! You can also tweak an exercise if it’s is too easy for you. There are many ways to modify any individual movement, don’t be afraid to make the choices that are right for you!
- Switch it up. Sometimes an individual exercise won’t work for you at all. For example, if a wrist injury makes doing planks difficult, replace your planks with different a core movement entirely. If you’ve been working out with us, you likely know dozens of core movements you could do instead.
- Shorten or lengthen. More tired than usual? Shorten your workout. Have a lot of energy today? Add to it! You are the master of your own destiny.
- Wipe the slate clean. Give yourself a fresh start every day. Our moods, emotions, physical abilities, balance, etc. change every day. Tiny variations in your environment and physiology can impact how your entire body feels. Build your standards for your workout around how you’re feeling right now.
Your Team is here to guide you in living the holistically best life possible. We believe a workout routine is part of that! However, if how your workout isn’t working for you, then it’s a waste of time and energy. You could even hurt yourself. Instead of forcing yourself to complete the workout the way the “experts” say, listen to your body! When it comes to your health and wellness, you are the only expert that matters.
